Uttar Pradesh’s all-new Noida International Airport (NIA) is slated to open for operations next year. Being built by Zurich Airport International, the Noida International Airport is expected to handle 12 million passengers annually. Plans involve increasing the capacity of the airport to 70 million passengers per year. Among the most interesting facets, the India-inspired design of the airport will have a front facade resembling the iconic ghats of Haridwar and Varanasi.
According to reports, the first phase of the Jewar Airport is spread over 1300 hectares. The airport will be inspired by India and will showcase elements from architectural marvels from across the country.
Noida International Airport: A key cargo project in north India
Pegged at an overall investment of Rs 5730 crore, the Noida International Airport is expected to become a key cargo gateway for north India over the years ahead. According to a report in the Times of India, Tata Projects is constructing the terminal, runway and other key infrastructure under the engineering-procurement model.
According to the government, the UP Government will hold a share of 37.5 per cent in Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), which is a joint-venture company responsible for the construction of the airport. Other stakeholders of Jewar Airport will be Noida – 37.5 per cent, Greater Noida – 12.5 per cent and YEIDA – 12.5 per cent. The project will be completed in 4 phases. As per Concession Agreement, first phase for 12 million passengers per annum is to be completed and made operational within 1095 days from the appointed date by September 29, 2024.
